LG HX301G 720p Front Projector - Silver

This is a replacement for an Infocus projector. I had replaced the lamps three times in 7 years and finally when the color wheel broke I knew we had to replace the projector. I had figured that I had already put $800 in lamps and the repair would be in excess of $400. Because we have a surround sound system with 8 speakers HD receiver and a 9 foot screen we were vested.

I researched projectors and I was beginning to think that I would have to pay at least $1200 or more for what I wanted and also figured on replacing the lamp every 2 years.

It all started when I came across some of the new micro projectors with LED bulbs. I was intrigued with the lamp life but concerned with picture quality when you are watching HD video on a 9 foot screen. That led me to LG and I read the reviews on Amazon and watched actual video from buyers. I stepped up to this model because of features.

It was out of the box and a few minutes to connect and read the instructions and we were ready. By the way let me say it is so simple and the settings and menus are easy to use.

We were floored with the picture quality. On this model you have preset options to improve picture quality. I have never been able to watch a movie with any lights on until now. If you set it to Vivid or even standard you can watch during the day with only the blinds closed and a few lights on and the picture is clear. I used the cinema mode at night when we have lights out for movies. Vivid is too much when the lights are out but perfect in the day and a well lit room. The colors are clear. The reds are eye popping.

I must admit I had my doubts because of the size and the price. It was too hard to resist though and I am so happy I did not.

A thumbs up to LG for making a projector of this size with this kind of quality and ease of use so affordable. I paid $560 on Amazon and I think it is the smartest purchase I have ever made.

Other things to note is the size how cool it stays how quiet it is during operation and the fact that you can pack it away in the carry case it comes with and take it with you. Your projector can be used daily and not just for those special movie viewings. The lamp life alone sells this. Think about how much money you will save. I could go on and since we just got it there are many features we have yet to try.

InFocus LP335 Dragonfly Video Projector

Best in the [price] range4

If you check out the reviews for LCD projectors infocus products rarely surface. But you get a great bang for the buck here. The NEC LF140 has received rave reviews but if you look carefully it is heavier than the LP335 and the intensity of its lamp is also lesser. Granted than the difference between 800 and 1000 lumens isn't that great (with the logarithmic nature of light intensity) but there will be a minor improvement in performance with the brighter lamp particularly if you leave the lights on during the presentation. When push comes to shove and you compare the features you might still be tempted to pick the NEC product for its "brand." If you yield to that temptation you'll pay about $1500 more for a inferior feature set.

On the otherhand the NEC Multisync VT540 is a decent buy. It has all that the dragonfly offers at a comparable price (it is about 3 lbs heavier but you get the MultiSync plug and forget functionality which is comforting.)

If you want to save your biceps effort buy the dragonfly else go for the NEC (reasons being the software and brand.)More detail ...

InFocus X1 Video Projector

X1 is a fantastic Home Entertainment system5

I purchased the X1 just before Christmas (delivery in 36 hours!) to be the video source for my Home Entertainment system. I use a computer to supply DVD input and for computer games. The Xbox and game Cube are connected through the s-video input. I am projecting on a 84 inch diagonal white screen. Viewing distance is about 11 feet.

DVD movies look perfect. There is no visible pixilation and blacks are close to true black (in film mode). Part of this is no doubt do to using a computer for the DVD input. I believe a direct s-video input may not be as good (I have not tried this though).

The video game systems also look great. Four player Halo on a big screen has to be seen to be believed.

I also have a TV tuner (Hauppage)in the computer and astonishingly the TV image (at about 65 inch diagonal)is excellent.

The only reservation would be that the light output is not great (especially in film or video mode) so you need to use it in a room that can be fully blacked out.

The picture is much better than any rear projection HDTV's I have seen (of any size). For the money I doubt you could by a better picture for TV or DVD viewing.

The native resolution is SVGA so Text is slightly ragged especially when displayed in XGA mode. Again due to the SVGA native resolution computer games do not look as good as on high resolution monitor. I would therefore not recommend the projector as your only computer monitor or for large amounts of web surfing.

Definitely recommended.More detail ...
